Mice are super sniffers! The olfactory lobes of rodents are much more pronounced than in humans, making the rodent's sense of smell their most important sensory organ. They follow their sense of smell to find food, avoid predators and search for potential mates, thanks to over 2,000 olfactory receptor genes (about 700 more than dogs). They are so good that they can detect the location of a wind in 0.05 seconds. Despite their lack of sight, mice also have a high sense of touch through their whiskers. They will use their whiskers as a sensory cue to support their daily activities, such as touching an object, orienting themselves and finding food. Able to perceive and use ultrasound to communicate with each other, pheromones are also key to mice communication, releasing them as warnings of danger or when marking scent. There's just one thing the rats haven't considered: Grifin's traps!
